Team Big Wow
Owning our own mobile crazy golf course has always been a goal of ours. When we started Big Wow Events in 2016, we initially provided light up letters, neon signs and other illuminated props but it soon became apparent that there was a need for more wedding entertainment. After receiving umpteen enquiries about lawn games, we ventured into wedding entertainment supplying approximately 14 lawn games including hook-a-duck, skittles and a coconut shy. As time went on, conversations became more frequent regarding a crazy golf course and how cool it would be to offer something people could hire. Roll on 5 years since then and the goal was getting closer to create a mobile crazy golf course. The original business plan was to design and construct a mobile crazy golf course throughout 2024 with a view to hiring it out in 2025, however, we had a very persistent and persuasive bride that we met at the Abbey House Hotel wedding open day and after a couple of emails back and forth, we finally caved and decided to bring the construction date forward with a view to completing and hosting our shiny new portable golf course by September 2023. The model for the golf has always been never to compromise on quality, followed by, it has to be spectacular, and we’ve stuck by that, dare we say it, to a tee (couldn’t resist!)
Needless to say, the course was quite basic with 9 sets of bases and some simple obstacles given the short timeframe we were given, so we began to adapt the obstacles to become features, instead. Once we confirmed our designs, we created actual size mock ups from heavy duty cardboard (which was so much fun!) that were then passed to our engineer ‘Tezza’ (Ray’s dad) to put his 40 years of engineering and woodwork expertise to good use and recreate the mock ups from wood.
We’d be lying if we said it hasn’t been challenging and there’s still so many ideas and improvements that we are developing on the course, but we are so proud of where we are, and that we have been able to create something so spectacular that 'WOWs' all who see it!
